Selecting a wedding venue that feels true to your relationship, your day-of aesthetic, and your overarching vision is one of the most important decisions throughout your wedding planning journey. From glamorous castles to industrial chic rooftops, your venue sets the stage not only for your decor decisions but also for what you wear. If lush greenery and bright blooms are your main source of inspiration, a greenhouse wedding is likely the best choice.

But what exactly is an appropriate greenhouse wedding dress? According to the vice president and general merchandising manager of David’s Bridal, Heather McReynolds, it’s all about leaning into the natural vibes and playing up the aesthetics of the setting. “Greenhouse venues are stunning for the lush, natural backdrop they provide—no floral arrangements needed,” she explains.

Meet the Expert

Heather McReynolds is the vice president and general merchandising manager at David’s Bridal, one of the largest bridal gown retailers in the world.

“The simplicity of an unembellished gown juxtaposed with the lush greenery is very chic,” McReynolds says. On the other hand, “Soft, diaphanous tulle gowns with floral appliques or 3D florals marries beautifully with the natural setting.” But whether you go the modern or the magnificently romantic route, paying attention to the fabric and sleeve length is important since greenhouses are typically humid.

To take out the guesswork, we’ve rounded up the best greenhouse-appropriate wedding dresses from our favorite sellers. All you need is a lush bouquet, and you’ll be ready for a bloom-filled special day.

What to Look for in a Greenhouse Wedding Dress

While there’s no one style that works best for a greenhouse wedding dress, McReynolds says you do need to keep the environment of the venue in mind. “Consider the humidity that is typically found in a greenhouse as it relates to the fabric of your dress,” she advises. “Brides may want to look at more lightweight, breathable fabrics.” Lightweight cotton, chiffon, and lace are all great options, but if you want something heavier, try to find pieces with slits, plunging necklines, and/or open backs to keep you from getting overheated. When considering looks with sleeves, McReynolds suggests strapless, spaghetti straps, tanks, and cap/short sleeves for a greenhouse event. If you do envision longer sleeves, select a style with lace or illusion that’ll still allow for plenty of airflow.

FAQ

  • Since greenhouse weddings can be humid and sticky, heavy jewelry can sometimes feel stuffy and overpowering, and it can detract from the natural beauty of the setting. Pay attention to your gown and play up the details by adding a simple pendant neckline, a few stackable bangles, or classic drop earrings for an understated look that compliments the natural aesthetic.

  • The best sleeve options for greenhouse events are short, spaghetti, or strapless due to the humidity of the venue. If you do want sleeves, opt for a cap sleeve dress or a style with lace or illusion sleeves to keep you from overheating.

  • Depending on the type of fabric, amount of detailing, and designer, greenhouse wedding dresses can vary greatly in price. That being said, since gowns for greenhouse nuptials are typically lighter on the embellishments and feature shorter sleeves, there are often plenty of budget-friendly options.
